In an exclusive chat with Strokes of Pen , Author Chandan Pathak talks about what inspired and motivated him to write his second novel, ‘The Beckoning of Gyanganj.’ Born and raised in Guwahati, Assam, he is an oilfield professional and is settled in aamchi Mumbai. A wanderlust and spiritual explorer at heart, he has a strong desire to experience the life of an ascetic in the Himalayas at some stage of life. ‘The Beckoning of Gyanganj’ is his second book. His first effort ‘Footprints’ was a collection of short stories which were earlier in form of blogs. Lead start Publishing published it in 2012. Most of the stories are based on real life experiences of the author while there were some fictional ones as well.

The discussion was called off. Asking an 18 year old to get married just because “society says so” was not a reason acceptable by any on us. Us, being my parents, my brother, and me. Being born in a Sindhi family, my primary job was to get married. No one and nobody thought beyond that. However, I am rather lucky that my parents are unconventional Sindhi’s who value studies and let me do whatever I want. They valued my independence, choice and knew that I can be much more than just someone’s wife . As years came, so came struggles and challenges. And, I overcame them without compromising.

Dear Family, It is amazing that how my life changed overnight.  My surname (and in some cases name) has changed, my identity has changed, my area, my room, my house, decorations, food habits, kitchen, my blankets, pillows, colors on the wall… everything has changed!
