Opined: Various thoughts crossing a female's mind when she sees and feels unprotected

The news is flooded with Tehelka scandal and people are demanding for punishment against Mr. Tejpal. The fact that he did something as heinous as trying to force himself on a female is good enough to send him behind bars - but, will that be sufficient?

Being a women, I cannot empathy with the 'victim' but I do share a sympathy with her. If I had been in her place or anyone else would have been or god forbid, in place of Nirbhaya's - would sending a person to imprisonment be enough?

In eyes of common people - the victim would be judged or even abused. someone will curse her, someone will blame her or someone may try to do the same with her. dignity once gone is gone. In December last year, Nirbhaya's case shocked up the whole nation- massive protests happened but what was really the outcome of it?

We did not stopped living. it was the victim's family that suffered and borne the loss of their loved one. shouting for justice, death penalties, life imprisonment cannot replace the lost person or integrity.

in the name of justice- my heart melts to see politicians playing the blame game, NGOs trying to make them heard, rally's without concrete base being carried out to slither away into darkness.

One incident is hyped so the police gears up in action, but what about those which are shoved under the carpet? What were the police doing till now? where is the government? why did not they work? where is the power and right of a common man?

Questions surround us like a swarm of bees - but, have we wondered that somewhere or the other - we are too responsible for it? we have opted and developed for 'let go' attitude for too long which resulted in wrong people handling governments.

The common population is lot more stronger than the population in the government? can we not get together and say NO - to all those things that push us backwards and restrict our progress? If not now, then when? It will not be long enough when there will be hundreds of Nirbhya and Tehelka scandals flooding every other hour- not day!!!

  1. Strong words here.
    Let us re-think, and
    find out a solution to
    such misbehaviors .
    When strong people
    are involved in such
    crime the victim will
    never come out with
    the complaint instead
    such things goes
    under the carpet.

  2. True Philipji. Moreover, people talk about the 'rape' or 'assault' that took place. But, no one wants to talk about the trauma a victim suffers.
